Elevating Black Public Health Leadership at APHA 2025

I am honored to have participated in the American Public Health Association (APHA) Annual Meeting, held November 2-5 in Washington, DC, representing the National Association for Doctors of Public Health (NADrPH) both as a booth exhibitor and as a speaker at the Consortium of African American Public Health Programs (CAAPHP) reception.

At our NADrPH booth, I had the opportunity to connect with students, faculty, and public health professionals from across the country. Visitors engaged with us about our mission to advance health equity, mentorship, and professional development for Black public health leaders. Conversations at the booth highlighted the importance of representation, networking, and collaboration in building a stronger and more inclusive public health workforce.

In addition to boothing, I was honored to be invited to speak at the CAAPHP reception, which brought together HBCU students, alumni, faculty, and partners, including Black Greeks in Public Health and the Black Caucus of Health Workers. During my remarks, I shared insights about NADrPH, highlighted opportunities for collaboration, and emphasized the importance of mentorship, community engagement, and preparing a diverse, culturally competent public health workforce.

Attending APHA in these dual roles reinforced the value of connection, visibility, and engagement. Every conversation at the booth and every interaction at the reception served to strengthen our shared commitment to addressing health disparities and advancing leadership in public health.

If you are part of the public health community, I encourage you to connect with NADrPH, explore collaboration opportunities, and engage in conversations about advancing Black leadership in health. Follow and join the conversation online using #NADrPH #CAAPHP #PublicHealthLeadership #APHA2025.
