Celebrating One Year of Impact: Real Health Impact’s Journey in Advancing Health Equity
Real Health Impact Team!
A message to our partners, supporters, and community:
As we celebrate the first anniversary of Real Health Impact (RHI), we are reflecting on a year defined by growth, collaboration, and a commitment to health equity.
Real Health Impact began as a vision for what public health could feel like when it is built with intention, care, and closeness to the communities it serves. This first year has been a journey of bringing that vision to life while learning, stretching, and building as we go. It has not always been easy, but it has been meaningful in ways that are hard to fully capture. What stands out most is not just what we have built, but the people who have helped shape it along the way.
We began with a vision to amplify community voices and advance equitable public health solutions, and our evolving work has grown into an organization with dedicated contributors and an expanding platform for thought leadership. This one-year milestone would not have been possible without the support of our partners, collaborators, clients, and community members who have joined us in this work.
This year has been one of learning, building, adapting, and showing up consistently for the work. Along the way, we've strengthened our community of contributors, expanded our reach, and continued to center the voices that too often go unheard in public health conversations.
We are proud of our success. We conducted a community-wide survey to capture our feelings about the past year – below you’ll find snapshots of our reflections.
Year One Highlights
Elevating Critical Public Health Conversations
One of our proudest accomplishments this year has been expanding our visibility and influence via thought leadership initiatives.
Through our blog, podcast, and social media platforms, we have brought attention to pressing health equity issues and have amplified perspectives that are often deprioritized in mainstream public health discourse. Contributors consistently identify these efforts as among the organization’s most impactful achievements.
As one contributor shared:
We have been leading key conversations in the public health field by giving voice to often overlooked issues.
By creating spaces for dialogue and learning, we have strengthened our role as a catalyst for conversations that promote health equity and accessible, community-centered solutions.
Building Infrastructure for Sustainable Growth
Like many emerging organizations, our first year required us to build systems while simultaneously delivering meaningful work. Behind every podcast episode, community conversation, and client engagement was a community of contributors figuring things out in real time.
While this work often happened behind the scenes, it has helped us become a stronger and more sustainable organization. More importantly, it has allowed us to spend more time focusing on the communities and partners we serve.
As one contributor reflected:
I am very proud of the way that each project area got off the ground by building infrastructure, documentation, and organization. We started from nothing and now we have a lot of internal processes and company systems in place, and I’m very proud of everyone!
Investing in Our Contributors
At RHI, we believe that advancing health equity begins with supporting the people doing the work. Throughout the year, we prioritized our well-being, professional development, mentorship, and opportunities for contributors and volunteers to align their work with their passions and career goals.
Multiple contributors highlighted the organization’s commitment to personal and professional growth as one of its greatest strengths.
One contributor noted:
The goals and aspirations of contributors and our well-being outside of the workplace are taken into consideration.
Another shared:
Everyone is supportive of the growth of not only the community but individuals.
We foster an environment of learning, encouragement, and celebrated individuality, and through this we have built a community of contributors that is both mission-driven and invested in one another’s success.
Overcoming Challenges, Together
Our first year was not without challenges. Resource constraints and process implementation hurdles were noted as obstacles for our organization. Yet these challenges were also chances to refine our systems and hone our capacity for collaboration.
The successful adoption of new project management tools and the continued development of reliable internal processes demonstrate our organizations ability to adapt and grow.
What Our Contributors Are Most Proud Of
When asked to identify the organization’s biggest triumphs, the RHI community reflected a strong sense of dedication to advancing our mission, no matter the environment.
One contributor captured our first year beautifully:
In a year marked by unprecedented challenges to public health, we remained steadfast in our mission toward advancing health equity and community impact.
Another underscored a similar sentiment:
Real Health Impact is finding its voice as a health equity leader at a time when clear, direct communication and deep expertise are more valuable than ever.
Looking Ahead: Priorities for Year Two
As we build on the momentum of our first year, key priorities for our future include:
Strengthening community partnerships and engagement
Enhancing data measurement, evaluation, and reporting systems
Continuing to expand professional development opportunities for contributors
Improving technological infrastructure
These priorities will steer us as we work to deepen our impact and serve our community partners with professionalism, accountability, and diligence. We're excited about what comes next.
Thank You
To our clients, collaborators, podcast guests, readers, supporters, volunteers, consultants, and contributors: thank you for being part of our first year.
As we enter our second year, we remain focused on our mission of advancing equitable health outcomes, amplifying community voices, and creating meaningful change through research, education, and partnership.
Together we are building a healthier, more equitable future.
With gratitude,
The Real Health Impact Team
